TYPOGRAPHY, GLASS BENDING, INTERACTIVE DESIGN & PUBLICATION
Iterative material-based research process and
demonstration of how these stages influenced the creation of new glass letterforms.
NOTE FROM MY INSTRUCTOR:
“During last sundays masterclass Thaomien worked on some glass pieces. She conducted material research in the pursuit of unconventional methods for creating letters, or rather shapes that could be typography. Inspired by the visual language of aliens in the film Arrival (2016), we traced these glass pieces by imprinting them with bleach on fabric, creating silhouettes and two-dimensional shapes, letters, once again.”
"Working with glass is like having a conversation," Thaomien remarks.
NOTE FROM MY INSTRUCTOR:
Glass does has its own behaviour, language, and timing, so working with it always becomes a dialogue. You have to respond to it as it will direct the chat you are having.
INTERACTIVE LETTERSThe letterform adopts the organic shape of glass pieces from masterclass. It also shares the characteristics of glass pieces: when hands move quickly, the letters break into pieces, mimicking the lampworking process with glass, where you must keep your hand as steady as possible.
